Alas Eternas
Alas Eternas es una escultura interactiva en 3D creada con acrílico sobre madera. Cada detalle fue pintado completamente a mano alzada, permitiendo que la obra evolucionara de forma orgánica durante todo el proceso creativo. Mi intención era que el público pudiera experimentar la pieza más allá de observarla, creando una obra que invitara al tacto, la reflexión y la conexión.
Inspirado en la mariposa monarca, el exterior simboliza la transformación, la migración y la memoria. En su interior, la obra rinde homenaje a Homero Gómez González, conocido como El Guardián de las Mariposas, cuya dedicación a la protección de las mariposas monarca y sus rutas migratorias fue la inspiración para este tributo.
La obra también tiene un significado profundamente personal. A lo largo de la escultura incorporé patrones y símbolos inspirados en la cultura mexicana, junto con los nombres de mis abuelos, Ángel González y María del Refugio, creando un espacio que honra su memoria y celebra a quienes siguen viviendo a través de las historias que compartimos.
Crear Alas Eternas para la exposición del Día de los Muertos del Mattie Rhodes Center me permitió unir la historia de mi familia con una tradición basada en el amor, la memoria y la celebración. El título refleja la idea de que el amor, los recuerdos y el legado continúan su camino sobre alas eternas.
Como parte de la exposición, también impartí un taller de Sip & Paint, donde guié a los participantes a través de mi proceso creativo y los animé a descurir el arte como una forma de conectar con la cultura, la memoria y la expresión personal.
Alas Eternas (Eternal Wings)
Alas Eternas (Eternal Wings) is a 3D interactive sculpture created with acrylic on wood. Every detail was painted freehand, allowing the piece to develop naturally throughout the creative process. I wanted viewers to experience the artwork beyond simply looking at it, creating a work that invites touch, reflection, and connection.
Inspired by the monarch butterfly, the exterior symbolizes transformation, migration, and remembrance. Inside, the piece honors Homero Gómez González, known as El Guardián de las Mariposas (The Guardian of the Butterflies), whose dedication to protecting monarch butterflies and their migration routes inspired this tribute.
The work is also deeply personal. Throughout the sculpture, I incorporated Mexican inspired patterns and symbols alongside the names of my grandparents, Ángel González and María del Refugio, creating a space that honors their memory and celebrates the people who continue to live on through the stories we carry.
Creating Alas Eternas for the Mattie Rhodes Center Día de los Muertos exhibition allowed me to connect my family's story with a tradition rooted in love, remembrance, and celebration. The title reflects the belief that love, memory, and legacy continue to move forward on eternal wings.
As part of the exhibition, I also led a Sip & Paint workshop, guiding participants through my creative process while encouraging them to explore art as a way to connect with culture, memory, and personal expression.
I am deeply grateful to the Mattie Rhodes Center for selecting me as the 2025 Featured Artist and to Boulevard Brewing Company for collaborating on the commemorative crowler design. It was an incredible honor to share my culture, my family's story, and a tradition that continues to inspire both my life and my artistic practice.
Mattie Rhodes Center | Día de los Muertos Featured Artist (2025)
Each year, the Mattie Rhodes Center celebrates Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a Mexican tradition that honors the lives of loved ones who have passed. Rather than focusing on loss, the celebration embraces remembrance, family, and the belief that those we love continue to live on through memory, storytelling, and community.In 2025, I had the honor of being selected as the Featured Artist for the exhibition. For the celebration, I created the featured artwork, designed the official commemorative crowler for Boulevard Brewing Company, and led a community Sip & Paint workshop where participants explored creativity while learning about the traditions of Día de los Muertos.
